A NEW FIRE FIGHTER

Every little boy and girl dreams of what they want to be when they grow up. For some it may be a nurse, a doctor, an astronaut, a mechanic or maybe a national geographic photographer. But, for some it is a fire fighter. Jay is the young man that I had into the studio to record an important time in his life as he decided to make his dream come true. He will follow in his grandfather’s footsteps. Jay will graduate in a couple of weeks and join the ranks of the many men and women that have decided to follow a career that many of us take for granted. He is going to become one of the few that will put his life on the line everyday for others and not think of himself but, of the people he will help and maybe save on some occasions. A fire fighter is the one person we are glad to see if a fire was to break out in our home or car. It is safe to say that every individual is pleased to see a fire fighter at the scene of an accident to provide comfort and assistance if once need be. As I was creating portraits for Jay to help him remember the start of his career, I kept thinking how lucky we are that young men and women today will still follow this path and will be there when needed. Next time you encounter a fire fighter take a moment to say thank you, because I am sure they don't hear it enough.

Baby John Paul

Had a great morning with Cristina and her sister Rosie creating some family history of little John Paul who is just turning 5 months old. John Paul was a bundle of joy and laughter as he tried to roll around on the floor or lift his head up to smile at his mom. The sad thing about babies is that they grow up way to fast and are in an ever changing state. It is easy to miss recording those changes and loss them forever to an aging memory. The great thing for parents that take the time and know the importance of preserving those moments through portraits is that those memories will carry on for a life time and be passed down from generation to generation. One of my favorite portraits from our time together reminded me of the old black and white portraits from the forties and fifties. Also, we can all relate to that special blanket that gave us so much joy and comfort. I hope you enjoy this portrait, I know I did and look forward to seeing little John Paul grow.

Briana - First Holy Communion

I had a great session with young Briana that is going to be celebrating her First Holy Communion in April. Briana was a fun and bubbly little girl that even laughted at some of my jokes. We had lots of fun creating some great portraits for her mon and dad to remember this special time in her young life. With Brianas beautiful communion dress and super personality it was a great season.

OP Robotics - First 2056-Toronto

I spent three days with the Orchard Park FIRST 2056 robotics team last week, at the Toronto regional. This was the team’s third and last regional of the month. I thought that the other two regionals were exciting but, this team just keeps setting new records and out performing their previous accomplishments. This past weekend the team set a world record for the most consecutive regional wins in the history of FIRST Robotics worldwide. The matches were very exciting with lots of robots trying to outsmart one another other and some really great battles between opposing robots. Unfortunately, some robots were tipped over and disabled by the collisions of the robots but, it made for an exciting time. All the robots were able to compete again, once they were fixed for the next match.

At the end of April the team will travel to St. Louis and represent their school and Canada. After seeing the quality of robots from the last three regional events, it is safe to say that St. Louis will be an exciting and fierce competition. Schools from all around the world will be involved in the St. Louis competition. The competition will have some of the best robots known to the FIRST competition. The students and mentors are excited to compete in St. Louis this year and hopefully will come home with the world championship.

 

 

 

OP Robotics - First 2056

What a great two days I spent with the team last week in Waterloo, for the Waterloo regional competition. This was their second competition this month and was just as exciting as the first in Oshawa, Ontario. So far this year they have won both of the regional competitions they have entered and came home with some bling. This makes for 13 consecutive wins in a row to date. Also, through great design they have been awarded an engineering award for the robot at each of the competitions. However, I think the greatest award and recognition for the team was winning the Chairman's award. This is probably one of the highest awards given to any robotics team from around the world participating in FIRST ROBOTICS. The team is required to be well rounded in many aspects of the FIRST make up. Just some of these aspects would be promoting the ideas of First to the community, participating in helping the community with special projects, mentoring additional teams from other schools and many more.

These are a great group of students’ that put their heart and soul into building the robot and competing in the many different competitions they enter every year. They are a joy to work with and help during the building season. It is great to see the design and build process pay off with the successful wins within the competitions. The team’s main drive is teacher Stan Hunter, who without him this team would not be what it is today. The students’ are very fortunate to have such a great role model and teacher, and I am sure many will remember Mr. Hunter, long after they have graduated and gone on to whatever careers they choose to pursue. The team has a great group of mentors to help them along the way and I feel very lucky to be able to be one of the mentors and give something back to the community I live and do business in.

I once heard a saying that said baby's are Gods way of saying everything will be alright. I do not know if it is true but, whenever I get to meet a new baby and see their fantastic smiles and little hands and feet with all their baby rolls it brings a smile to my face. The love you see from the mother when she holds her little one or the giggle, smile the baby gives to you when they see mom doing something funny or just a little tickle under the foot makes my day. Baby Vanessa was one of those special baby's that did all of the above plus more. I had such a great time creating her first portraits that will become her life long history on her journey to growing up. The problem is they grow up too fast and the moments are gone forever, as we lead are busy life's. That's why it is always great to help parents capture that special time of a child's life.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Welcome Courtney to the studio.

Well the start of another co-op placement is upon us at the studio. It is great to give back to the community and one of the ways we contribute is by taking part in co-op education at the studio. We have been teaming up with Bishop Ryan Catholic School and allowing the students to come to the studio as a co-op employee. Our newest addition is Courtney and she is already fitting in to the studio and becoming part of the team. We did a small portrait session with Courtney and I just wanted to share some of the portraits with you. Hope you enjoy.

 

 

 

Christmas- a time for family to be together

As busy as the holiday season is every year Christmas is one of the greatest times to be together with family. For Michelle and her family it truly was as her oldest son was coming home from Japan for a holiday. When we went to Michelle's home to create the portrait for the family, the minute we walked into the door you felt like you where in a loving home and the spirit of the holidays was all around. I wanted to make sure that the warmth of family was present in the portrait and the addition of their two great dogs really helped pull it off. We had such a great time with the family and hearing about each of the busy life's they all are pursuing was great.

Family portraits

On a recent portrait session I meet two great boys who had a fantastic love for their mom, who by the way was so proud of the boys and we had a great time. The boys had so much energy even though young Daman had a cast on his leg. This did not slow him down at all. His older brother Naddan was just as full of energy and the two were like a wind storm in the studio. The portrait session was filled with lots of laughter and some good stories from the boys. I don't know how mom keeps up with their energy. But all this energy provided me with a great opportunity to create some timeless portraits for moms home. In the end we put together a great wall collection of portraits to hang in their home to enjoy for years to come.
